PostPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 1:04 pm Post subject: No icon Congrats and Thanks to the SW Folks Reply with quote

I want to thank all of the Sunday night Speedway regulars for allowing me to run last night.  Having not tested the new Daytona  2011 I needed to see what had changed and if I could be competitive on it.

Congratulations to Chad on his win.  He and other may think that it was not deserved but had he not ran a smart, clean, and fast race he would not have been in position to win when the last lap shootout occurred.  For those who may have been surprised that I pitted coming to the checkered flag and the win you shouldn’t be.  I did the same thing in the Piggz Cliff truck race last week and have, for the most part, always pitted or retired before the end of races in any series that I do not regularly run in. I think that is only right.  Those of you who support these series each week and are running for the points and championship should not lose points because me (or any other non-series regular) decides to show up and run now and again.

Again, high 5 to Chad and thank you all for the good race and lessons learned.

Yeah I couldn't believe you did that.  Personally, I feel if you come in and race the race, then you should finish where you finish.  It's our job to get faster and worry about points.

I'd rather win heads up than on a technicality.  So thanks, and nice work on the last lap there.....but please finish next time, lol.

I'm sorry to hear you sound unhappy with what I did.  Sad  We differ in philosphy I guess Chad.  I don't win many races but it doesn't matter because winning races is just not as important to me as it is to some folks and in the long run I think I do OK in most series I run in without winning a lot.  Having fun, being competitive, and being thought of as a good driver, and a decent kind of guy is. I had fun, I was competitive, and my retiring harmed no one. It was a good night. Whether you choose to believe it or not, you did win fair and square because you out ran all of the other series regulars.

Again congrats and we'll see you again soon.

Nooo I'm not mad at all.  I enjoy racing with you and have learned a great deal about running these SS tracks from watching you and your teammates race.  Everyone knows that we have to outrun you if we want to win at the SS tracks.

Trust me, I'm well aware that I'm 0 for 15 in the SS series.  I haven't figured out the right combination of being fast enough, staying clean, and outrunning you guys at the end.  But I enjoy it and I think it makes me a better racer.  I just don't want anything to be handed to me bud.

Can't wait for the next race where I can try it again.  Til then, you da man.    Cool

think i gotta disagree with alil ak if im runnin and not hurt or damaged even though im not in points race im gonna run till the end, im not gonna try and get in the way but im gonna give it all and if i  am not runnin competitive i will retire and get out of way. but like chad said it makes everyone better wether you runnin for points or not my 1 1/2 cents

Time for me to chime in.

The SPEEDWAY Series is not about Super Speedway Racing.

Rick and I are very Super Speedway experienced. I am not talking just about the 2 boring plated SS tracks Daytona and Talledega.

I am talking about the other 30+ Super Speedway Tracks.

The inaugural Daytona Night 2011 Race ( by Crabby ) at the SPEEDWAY Series was... SLOW.

I joined the race for 1 purpose only. I was testing my connection with my new modem that is not up to my expectations. As you know, I did not race or qualify.

I could have beaten Rick's Pole run by at least 1.5 MPH.

I would have also been able to to run 203+ MPH in the draft with no problem.

Rick bailed out of the SPEEDWAY Race because of his respect for the SPEEDWAY drivers. I bailed out for the same reason.

I could have stayed in and offered immense pressure, if it were not for my junk connection. I may have kept everyone on their toes as well as Rick.

Had I been able to race Daytona Night 2011, I would have been more concerned about helping to PUSH someone as opposed to winning the Race.

Rick and I would never race BRISTOL. That is far beyond our interest and capabilities. We would have been embarressed. Our FORTE is SS Racing.

Chad...don't consider your win as being given. You are too darn good in the other series.

When Gonz used to use SPEEDWAY tracks in the SS series, I got my butt handed to me.

As far as running Bristol, well I've ran it in the past but short tracks of any kind have always been my achilles heal and the bane of my racing existence.

As I said, I had not turned a lap on the new Daytona before last Sunday and needed to see how it and I measured up.  I know there is still more speed to be had both qualifying and running.  But can I find enough more?  Well, there is no doubt in my mind that as long as Squid continues to race I will always be the SS Master's Apprentice  Very Happy

SS races are not won by the speed of one's Sword.

The SS Championships are also not won by the speed of one's Sword.

Speed can be an advantage... if used properly.

It takes a tremendous amount of dedication to this SIM in order do as well as YOU have done Rick.

I can perhaps help you and others to be faster with my setups. I cannot teach you or anyone else how to drive.

You figured out how to drive this SIM... A LONG LONG LONG time before our paths ever crossed.

Your gaming racing prowess is easy to recognize... if a person knows what to look for. Smile

High 5!

OK now I have to chime in. Rick if you never planned on going for the win you should of pitted before the restart. By taking the green and since SS tracks are about having a someone to draft with, you changed the outcome of the race.

SS tracks are fun to run but don't say skill is needed. When you can go fast and run with the leaders at flat tracks where another driver is not needed  for you to win. You can have a fast setup at Daytona but lets face it if no one helps you you don't win.

I am not putting anyone down, but holding the pedal to the metal every lap and hoping that someone helps you is what I consider easy racing. Sliding a car through a corner on a flat or short track braking and catching your car off the corner from spinning is racing. And most of all not needing anyone to push you to the win is great!

I love big fields on Sunday nights and hope more come in for all the races. But please don't give up on the last lap comming to the checkers. Chad and I have been on the outs lately but I sure he will agree we don't look for handouts. Beat us if you can!

Well it takes something at SS tracks to win and Rick and his teammates have figured it out.  I definitely wish I knew what they were doing different.  Making it to the end is half the battle in SS races.  It takes skill because it's more "mental" and trying to put yourself in the right place at the right time...something I haven't mastered.

Squid, I would race that series if I could find setups somewhere.  Not knowing a thing about making sets, I usually search for ones that I can drive.  I only stumble on cup, busch and truck sets.  So if I ever found something that is competitive, I would run the series occasionally.

If a setup is all that is holding you back, I will help you. Please PM me your e-mail addy. I lost your addy for some strange reason. Confused

The Monday night race is at Texas SBP OWR @ 80 degrees. This track sticks like glue.
Make sure you download the track if you can make it. It is not the same as the usual Texas track.

Would love more competition on Mondays. Texas is a blast to run. Still more speed to find though. But, UNFORTUNATLY we are running Hawgenheim this coming week.
If you need a good setup for texas shoot me a PM, or if you just need something that is "ok" Squid can hook you up Razz
